Hours after the conference wrapped up today, we spent the evening talking about the launch of the Tikapur women’s sewing training program with a group of extraordinary community leaders. After a delicious dinner of rice, dal, buffalo curry, fried fish, and naan, three women and two men from the community were elected by their peers.  They have been given the responsibility to select 10 women to be invited into the 9 month training program on April 1.

The possibilities are limitless – sewing machines and tailoring potential for the graduates and an expansion of the program to include more women and trades. The line of women hoping to be a part of this opportunity is long, the potential great, and our longing to collaborate with this community is huge.
