Working in Uganda, the mission of Pangea is to EMPOWER schools and UNIFY communities through SUSTAINABLE education. The $2,000 raised made their summer teaching training possible, training 108 primary school teachers and many parents in early grade literacy instruction over a year-long program. $2,000 Goal Met!
When a child can read, she can write her own future. -Philip Nel
THIS IS GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT @ ITS BEST! The program we’re seeking to fund is a game-changer. For those who get excited about NUMBERS and IMPACT, here ya go:
- It trains **108** primary school teachers and many parents in early grade literacy instruction over a year-long program.
- These teachers will serve **4,536** students this year and will teach **90,720** throughout their careers.
Another way to look at it:
- Every $56 will fund the training of a teacher who will serve over 840 children throughout the life of their career.
- That’s 840 children that can open the door to the world’s body of knowledge in books, on the internet, and express themselves.
- 840 children that can choose their future with information rather than having it chosen for them.
- All for $56. (Not a bad investment, aye?)
Pangea has funded just under $4,200 for this project for this year already. We are just helping them get across the finish line! Cuz, that’s how we roll!
In Uganda teachers spend the most time helping children learn to read – a foundational skill that EMPOWERS all other learning. Only 32% of Uganda’s 5th graders can read at a 2nd grade level and most will not go on to further learning. This is where Pangea comes in — and now, we get to be a part!
We believe that empowering people to be RESOURCES IN THEIR COMMUNITIES is one of the most SUSTAINABLE ways to make education matter for kids in Uganda.

Why am I posting a trailer for Beyonce’s Homecoming film in our fundraiser for Pangea Educational Development, co-founded by our bro’, Drew Edwards?
Both Beyonce and Pangea are about: Connection. Stories. Education. Celebration. Beauty. StandingTALL for and with each other.
Being bold. Brave. YOU.
The trailer below includes the voice of Maya Angelou, in which she says,
What I really want to do is be a representative of my race, of the human race. I have a chance to show how kind we can be, how intelligent and generous we can be. I have a chance to teach and to love and to laugh…I know that when I finish doing what I’m sent here to do, I will be called home. And I will go home without any fear, trepidations, wondering what’s gonna happen.
I also LOVED this quote:
Keep on pushin,’ Curtis Mayfield said; ‘be a force for good,’ Coltrane said… that ain’t havin’ a hope. That’s bein’ a hope. Courageously bearing witness regardless of what the circumstances is because you’re choosing to be a kind of person of integrity to the best of your ability before the worms get your body.

Today is my kids’ last day of school – 1 day before my Soph’s graduation from middle school! On my mind is how to connect MORE WHOLLY with our sisters and brothers in Uganda – those part of the Pangea community.
July, 2019 Update
Just got these photos from Drew Edwards, co-founder of Pangea – Uganda. He wanted me to pass this shout out of gratitude for the Seeds of Exchange community’s part in the 2019 teacher program launch this summer in Uganda!!
During our May Seeds of Exchange Fundraising Partnership, we raised $2,000 to help make the teacher training program a GO!
Your fundraiser helped us make our teaching program a reality for the rest of this year. – Drew
