The journey of life will bring moments in which you feel as though you are navigating uncharted territories. They will come. They always do.
It can take great courage and the adventure can be thrilling. Consider that claiming the vocation of an explorer might just free you from the burden of needing to know where you are going and how you are getting there.
Rooted in Latin explorare, the word “explore” means to “investigate, search out, examine.” Rarely, if ever, is seeing the whole path part of the quest. The exploration most often involves regions yet unfamiliar. Sometimes there are maps to consult; other times, the lands are brand new. Either way, navigating undiscovered terrains is part of the work of an explorer. It is to be expected. It is normal. Will there be unfamiliar places? Yes. Will there be unknown places? Of course. Will there be uncomfortable places? Most definitely. Though sometimes challenging, these conditions do not disqualify you; in fact, they are evidence that you are living your calling as an explorer.
Another important nudge for the road: As you continue to explore, you may or may not discover things that you deem significant. Not to worry. Keep walking. Keep exploring. Discoveries don’t add to the sparkling worth of who you are.
Keep going. Persevere.
BE COURAGEous.
In it all, may you know
that being an explorer is not about discovering,
doing, or
daring
more
to
BE
more.
Grow your roots
in the indisputable,
uncontested, the
unshakable:
You have glittering gifts.
You matter.
You are loved.
You are not alone – not now, not ever.
BE Still. Surrender.
Here we are.
You may have more questions you want answered, more clarity you need,
more you want to know and understand.
But, as we’ve done throughout this jOURney of 40 PoPs,
in this moment,
let your brow relax,
your jaw loosen.
Remember this is not up to you entirely.
You do not need to force, strive, or push.
Let these things go.
BE.
Breathe.
Soften.
Let go of the burdens.
Open to what you most need.
Just BE.
Ponder. Go Deeper.
How might claiming this vocation of an explorer shift your expectation that you need to know everything all the time? How might it reduce your sense of worry and increase peace when you find yourself in uncharted places, in the land of the not-yet-understood?
Are there any bits of your life, whether in relationships, work, or your own clarity about your purpose on the planet, that burden you to see more clearly? Ponder and consider if there is another way, a lighter and freer way, to navigate uncharted and undiscovered territories.
Engage. Commit.
Commit to one thing you are most keen to explore, without the burden or pressure of needing to understand or see the whole path. One person or place or thing that is drawing you to come and see, to pay attention. Do one thing today to BE the intrepid explorer that you are.
