Today’s exploration is about allowing – even INVITING – your feathers to BE ruffled by the injustice, the pain, the needs of your sisters and brothers ‘round the world. As we go, we’ll take a beat and a breath … and BE STILL, together.
BE Still. Surrender.
If discomfort, if a sense of ruffling has come to light in you,
look at it, and let it go.
If a gripping thought shows up, let it go.
Imagine breathing it out. Exhaling it.
Or picture it in your cupped hands,
and with your – or someone else’s – big and capable hands,
scoop it up and take it away.
Close your eyes.
Imagine a softening in the tightest parts of you.
Your brow, your jaw, your stomach.
Deepening your conviction that those near and far in your human family belong to you and you to them changes the way you see the global realities of poverty, slavery, and exploitation. It becomes nearly impossible to look away. You can’t stand by. You won’t stand by. You won’t do nothing.
“The trouble is that once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And once you’ve seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. There’s no innocence. Either way, you’re accountable.” -Arundhati Roy, Power Politics
Ponder. Go Deeper.
How comfortable are you to allow moments of discomfort, to really see and sit with the pain and struggle that abounds in the world? Write about it or go for a walk. Consider where you might allow your feathers to be ruffled. Is it in conversations with those in your everyday life, in how you spend your time, in how you spend your money, in boldly exploring your part in a painful reality in the world?
What is one thing you can do today that you are drawn to, but that you’ve hesitated exploring before, because it’s uncomfortable? This is officially a feather-ruffling act, and it can BE one that greatly changes you. You rock. You’ve got this. You’re not alone.
Given the state of our world – the Corona virus pandemic, school and work closures, challenges to global markets and personal paychecks – we must take a few moments to BE still and to pause. These days, more than ever, there has been much clamoring for our attention 24-7 with LOUD, FEAR-based, PANIC-inducing messages – but let’s practice peace, together, amidst these stormy days. I share these PoPs so you can FILL UP with peace and navigate this wild and crazy season with strength and courage.
You are loved.
We belong to each other.
Let’s standTALL together and light up the world!
My love is with and for you, my friend. Have a most blessed and beautyFULL day!
