DO YOU FEEL IT, MY FRIEND? That the need to be sustainably fueled – from deep within – is more important than ever today? I do. Especially, as we discern our part to love and care for ourselves, our families, our communities, and our sisters and brothers … who are often in urgent and critical need of support. For many, the struggles and pain are epic, and I have a hunch they are going to increase in intensity in the days to come.
As I was mulling over these things, my amazing momma shared this quote with me a few days ago and I’ve been chewing on it ever since. I thought I’d share it with you … lemme know what strikes you as you, too, chew on these words.
Those of us who attempt to act
and do things for others or for the world
without deepening our own self-understanding,
freedom, integrity, and capacity to love,
will not have anything to give others. -Thomas Merton
If you’re feeling low on bandwidth and energy – perhaps worn out caring for those around you – I have a sustainable-fuel nudge for you to consider. Commit to a pocket of time today or tomorrow to BE STILL, in silence, when there is typically noise and conversation. Try it. Turn off your phone, your TV, maybe even play with having a meal in silence with those in your life … explore what bubbles up.
When you do, breathe deeply and fully. Relax your eyes, your jaw, your stomach, your shoulders … anywhere you’re inclined to grip. Gently smile. Close your eyes. Let go. Surrender what burdens. Be open to receive what you most need in that moment. Ahh.
Take care of yourself, dear friend. Do what you can to fuel your body, mind, and spirit as best you can and to ask for help when you need it. If you missed ’em, take a peek at one of the 40 10-minute Places of Pause (PoPs) I shared last month on your favorite social media platform: Facebook | IGTV | YouTube
Remember to reply to this note with any requests for prayer or extra love/juju that you need today.
You are loved.
We belong to each other.
Let’s standTALL together and light up the world.
